Since the Notes section is buried so far on a student record, I'd love to see a notification of some sort to indicate that there is an active note on the record. This could be easily done by adding a note image in the student info header, as mocked up in the attached screenshot.
(Side note: Don't use the sticky graphic I used in my mockup screenshot, as it's the icon for the Windows program Sticky Notes)
